Motorcycle
Injuries Are Devastating
Injuries from a motorcycle collision can
be fatal, life-threatening, or severely
debilitating and, unfortunately, these
injuries are all too common.
Motorcyclists know that they face
numerous dangers each time they ride and
that is why they are extremely cautious
when riding. Insurance companies often
try to blame the motorcyclists, but we
know it’s usually the driver of the car
or truck that was not paying attention.
If you or someone you know has been
injured in a motorcycle accident, call
an experienced motorcycle injury
attorney at Powers Chapman today.
Injured in a
Motorcycle Accident? You May Be Entitled
to Benefits
Not every motorcyclist injured on the
road is entitled to Michigan’s No-Fault
benefits. If a motor vehicle is involved
in a collision with a motorcycle,
however, the motorcyclist may be
entitled to benefits, including wage
loss and medical benefits, through the
insurance company of the motor vehicle
driver. You need an attorney who knows
the law and who can help you get the
benefits to which you are entitled under
the law. The experienced trial attorneys
at Powers Chapman know the law and know
how to help you. Call today.
Michigan’s
Motorcycle Helmet Law
In 2012, the Legislature, with approval
from Governor Snyder, modified
Michigan’s helmet law so that
individuals 21 and older could choose
whether or not to wear a helmet when
riding a motorcycle. The new law
requires those not wearing helmets to
have at least $20,000 in motorcycle
medical-benefit insurance (similar to
Michigan’s no-fault policies for
automobiles) and to have held a
motorcycle endorsement for at least two
years. If you have not held a motorcycle
endorsement for at least two years, you
can pass an approved motorcycle safety
course to waive the two-year
requirement. Motorcycle passengers may
also opt out of donning a helmet if they
are 21 years of age or older and if they
have purchased the additional $20,000 in
medical insurance coverage.
Of the 128 motorcycle fatalities in
Michigan in 2013, 59 of those fatalities
were riders or passengers who were not
wearing helmets. For useful information
on helmet safety and other motorcycle
safety tips, please visit the Motorcycle
Safety Foundation website located at
